55 Fiction Friday - Her Nemesis

Simple Sweet Inspiration

I am an avid reader.  In fact, I am a devourer of books. It's probably an illness.  I should join Over-Readers Anonymous. When I pick up a book, I can't just read one or two chapters a day.  In fact, when I pick up a book it's usually gone in a day.  Sorta sad... the story finishes too soon.
I am not sure that this explains my desire to write.  I took a lot of English and literature classes in college, because they were easy As for me, and because it was oddly satisfying to sit down, write, complete an assignment and get an outsiders point of view on my work. I can remember my love of writing began when I was in second grade.  We were given a piece of paper in an odd shape and a list of words to include and given free rein to write a story.  I loved the assignment.  I loved the challenge of my journals in high school.  I find creative writing to be relaxing.
I started actively blogging almost 6 weeks ago.  I have gained 28 followers in that time... it's affirming, it's addictive, it's a huge time waster!  There has to be a reason that people have blogs with names like "I should be folding laundry" and other similar (and funny) names.  I started a blog to stretch my writing muscle after so many years of little use (other than our annual Christmas letter and the occasional newsletter article).
I was perusing the blogosphere and came across The Dialogue, and this idea... 55 Fiction,  read more about it here.  The basic rules are this:
  1. Fifty-five words or less (A non-negotiable rule)
  2. A setting,
  3. One or more characters,
  4. Some conflict, and
  5. A resolution. (Not limited to moral of the story)
  6. The title of the story is not part of the overall word count, but it still can’t exceed seven words.
To continue stretching and challenging myself I will be utilizing my Fridays to do this and I am formally issuing a challenge to any of you out there who are also writers (note the lack of the word: published).  Hope to get a few links, learn how to use McLinky, and post yours here... and give me some blog love!  GRAB THIS BUTTON!

Her Nemesis

She walked into the room

In the corner, she saw,
staring at her menacingly
her nemesis

She screams "Week after week,
I think I defeat you, yet still you return."
Silence fills the room.

She approaches slowly, muttering
"I will not fold, you will not defeat me"

She sighs.

Then folds her laundry.
