Sunday Soaking - “Do these pants make me look fat?”

"Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's
forehead." - Chinese Proverb

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:15-16

REFLECT:
  • What do you think it means to speak the truth in love?
  • Have you ever been in a situation that it was really challenging to speak the truth in a loving way? What made it so hard? Do you think this verse pertains to that situation? Why or why not?
  • What does the author say the consequences of speaking the truth in love are? Do you think that every situation warrants complete honesty in your answer? (Like when your friend asks if you like her new haircut and you don’t?)
  • Why do you think speaking the truth in love is connected to a verse about the body of Christ?

REACT:
How can you daily speak the truth in a gentle and loving way?

  2. I pray every day to Love people through christ, the way he does. Sometimes it can be very hard to speak the truth in love because sometimes people just do not want to hear it ,no matter how gentle the approach .Then we must pray for them , for the Holy spirit to soften their hearts & maybe ours too. I see no reason to hurt a person's feelings simply because my taste in fashion or hair style may differ from them , you can always find something nice to say if you really think about it.I f you just blurt out the first thing that comes in your mind, then you need to pray for self-control.

  6. Love the Chinese proverb... too bad it's our natural tendency to "help" in similar ways.
