Tipsy Tuesday - Get your blog on! How to make a button in html

Tipsy Tuesdays

Let me start this TIPSY TUESDAY by giving you a simple tip that ANYBODY can do... you don't even need to know how to speak computer. You'll even learn to write in a little HTML.  Do you know what HTML means?
hypertext markup language: a set of tags and rules (conforming to SGML) for using them in developing hypertext documents
Clear as mud humm?  Well, to get on with it. I love buttons!  I think that having your blog on a button is just about the BEST thing ever!

So... if you look around, you might see that I am button happy.  I collect them.  I create them for everything, it was one of the first things I learned how to do.  Buttons complete me.  If I could get paid making buttons for people, I would do it!

In fact, if you want me to make you a button for your blog, go to my PayPal account, deposit $5 and I will make you 5 buttons...

Maybe I shouldn't tell you how...

FINE. I will, but it's just because if I don't tell you, I know you'll go to someone else.
I like you.  I wish you would follow me.
Go over and click on the "follow" button... and you'll make me happy, then I will follow you and make you happy.

Ready?

Step 1: Create the button.  You can do this a number of different ways.  I personally use Publisher to start the buttons... I create a box (if I want to end up with a 150 x150)  I include my text, my picture or clipart and what ever else I feel I need on my button.

Step 2: Download button to a photo hosting site... I use Photobucket for all of my imaging needs.  You can then "edit" it and resize it to the size you want, make it 125x125 or 150x150.  If you have no idea what I am talking about, post a comment and I'll answer the question.

Step 3: Post your button... If it's in a post... just click the tab "edit html" when you're ready to post it and post the html code.  Or Click Customize, then Layout, then "Add New Element", then the HTML element. When the window opens, post the code in there.

OK... This is what you copy and paste... this makes a button.

If you want to put a button (like the one at the top of my post) that will grab a specific label (like all of my posts that include the Tipsy Tuesday label) you need to first find out the http "address" of this label.
You can do this by: opening a new tab, open your blog, click on that label and they will all show up, then copy the address at the top of your browser and paste it in the spot that says "PUT YOUR LINK HERE" keep the quotation marks around the address (this works for any address).
NOW go to your button image at photobucket and find the "direct link" html, and paste it where it says "PUT THE DIRECT LINK TO YOUR PHOTO"... it it looks like... "http://i287.photobucket.com". Click apply or publish... or save... and you should have a functioning button!

If you still don't understand... if you post a comment, I will help you.  Honest.  If you don't understand and you don't post a comment... can't help you.  Not a mind reader.

Happy button making!

I don't even know what publisher is. After searching my computer for all of 3 crazy minutes I read the rest of your post and it sounded like Charlie Browns teacher. Hehehe!I am not a techie:0)

  5. I thought that was super helpful! I wish you'd had this post up four months ago when I had absolutely no computer knowledge and wanted to make a button! I'm going to copy/paste your tips for future reference!

  8. This is just what I need - a button! Don't have Publisher though. If I drop a $5 in your PayPal account, can you make 3 buttons for one blog and two for another? :)
