The Words I Would Say

There is a song by the Sidewalk Prophets called "The Words I Would Say", when I did a little research, I discovered that it was inspired by a letter the songwriter wrote for his Grandfather. The story goes that his mother called and told him that his grandfather might not survive the night, the writer felt called to sit down and write a "love letter" to his grandfather (which he was able to read to him before he died).

Whenever I hear the song, I immediately think of my children first and then other young people God has put into my life. If you want to hear the song, you can listen/watch here: Sidewalk Prophets YouTube Popout

The part of the lyrics that "get me" every-time is the chorus:

I'd tell you just what you mean to me,
I'd tell you these simple truths,
Be strong in the Lord and,
Never give up hope,
You're going to do great things,
I already know,
God's got His hand on you so,
Don't live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don't forget why you're here,
Take your time and pray,
These are the words I would say...

I know that someday my kids will be teenagers and they will beyond hearing and/or listening to me, but these are the words I would say:
Dear B & C,

Don't forget who you are, don't forget whose you are.
We will always love you, accept you & want you

You are lovable & are worth more than cheap thrills, so save yourself.  God's got His hand on you, live life BOLDLY!
Show love generously. Don't give up on people easily, and take time and pray for others.
Slow down, read and learn to enjoy silence.
Be patient with Love.
Never stop being silly. Be quick to smile, slow to become angry and enjoy simple things.
Never stop dancing in the rain, never stop playing tag with the ocean and KNOW that God has GREAT plans for you!

Those are the words I would say...

Just me, AJ
