Just a little rest for the head...

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” The Message, Matthew 11:28-30

I am really bad about resting.  I can joke and say that I am really good at doing nothing, but I am really not.  Even when I watch TV I am almost always doing something else (laundry, crafting, eating dinner).  I live my life in fast forward, I fill every moment, I live life to the fullest, I don't like to waste time sleeping or staring off into space (I do that when I am in the shower in the morning.  See? Still multi-tasking).

I love to live my life like this.  I get tired and worn out occasionally... sometimes if I have emotional stress, I can't keep going, and have to take a little break.

But, most of the time, I live like this every day, every week, every month, every year.  When people say "you're so BUSY"... I say "I'll sleep when I'm dead".  I know it will eventually catch up with me... but as long as I have the energy, I will keep busy.  I'm having fun, I'm filled with life.  Most of these activities are things I do with my kids or my family... and it's all good.

Are you like me?  Do you run the race with enthusiasm and keep yourself busy doing good things?

God has a message for you too...  take a rest in Him.

Still.  Silent.  Contemplative.  Just take a moment and breathe. The world won't fall apart if you are taking a break.

Even God rested.  He worked hard, He finished His work, and then... He rested. If it's okay for Him, it's okay for us!

Do we do so much because we don't feel like we are a good enough just who we are?
Do we keep so busy so we don't have time to think, because we have nothing good to say to ourselves?
Do we spend our lives doing good things FOR our families without actually spending time WITH them?

How can you rest today?  Spend some time listening to worship music, pray, read some scripture, enjoy your yard (without pulling weeds or cleaning something), read a book in the quiet of your living room, play a board game with the family, or have a friend over for coffee or tea and share from your heart.

What is your favorite way to rest?

Praying for your rest {and mine too}!

  1. I am not a good rester. I manage to keep myself busy, and even when I have a chance to be still, my mind is racing. Thanks for this reminder to rest. Beautiful photos!
