I am the APPLE OF HIS EYE {Psalm 17:8}

Today's Verse: Keep me as the apple of your eye;  hide me in the shadow of your wings Psalm 17:8

Literally, the term "apple of your eye" means that we are cherished above all others.  While I don't think God has favorites, the term describes a fond sort of love that exceeds other love.

The next phrase "hide me in the shadow of your wings" describes a sacrificial love.

After a horrendous forest fire, some fire-fighters were walking through the forest in search of "hot spots" or other potential risks.  One fire fighter discovered the blackened corpse of a mother bird covering her young under her wings (who were alive).

Both are beautiful illustrations of how God feels about us.

Both are perfect examples of love. (In a slightly "parental" way.)  God sees us how a parent sees his or her child. (though I hope we are slightly less annoying to God).

As believers, as Children of God, we are cherished by Him as valuable and favored.  He loves us and looks upon us as so important to Him.

The "apple of His eye".

You might know this already, but God cherishes you.  He views you as a valuable and beloved child.

Act like you are.

Enjoy this song.  The verse reminded me. :)

  2. Hello AJ, thank you for coming by my blog and sorry I have not come by before-I have not been well so just catching up with my blog now. This is a lovely song and the your post is such a lovely reminder of God's love. Funnily enough I have a passage I read as a devotional and it has the "apple of his eye" in it which I find hard to read and tend to skip by. I did not skip by it in your post though and thank you for explaining it the way you did-now I do not mind being the spple of the father's eye. Blessings.
