Today's Verse: Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
Psalm 34:5 (NIV)

What a beautiful visual this verse gives me!  Because I look to Him, I am radiant, I am beautiful, I am "vividly bright and shining", I am "marked by or expressive of love, confidence, or happiness".

I am radiant when I look TO Him, because when I look TO Him, I am realizing who I am IN Him.  When I look TO Him, I am depending on Him to give me the reassurance of His love and acceptance of me.   I am radiant because of the joy and confidence that can only come from a strong sense of who I am in Him.

It says that when we look to Him, we are beautiful because we understand what it means to be forgiven.   He says our faces are never covered with shame.

When we are looking to our spouses, our children, our friends or our co-workers (or other bloggers) to give us a sense of our identity or our purpose rather than to God, we feel shame because we can never measure up against human expectation.  When we allow ourselves to be fully accepted and loved by God, though, we begin to understand how He made us unique and for a purpose, and even when we mess up, He still loves and forgives us.

When we are free of shame... we are beautiful!!

  1. This really spoke to me. I was raised in abusive home. Abuse of every kind imaginable. I learned very early how to be a good girl and a people pleaser so I could escape any wrath. I have struggled with others identifying me. My parents see me as rude and a disappointment. I wore that identity for a long time. As an adult I was introduced to God's complete love and redemption. My identity comes from my Savior. However, I do experience times when I fall back into the trap of feeling worthless and ashamed. Thank you for reminding me that when I look to Jesus I am beautiful.

  2. Jesus is beautify. When I look to Him, I can't help but become beautiful.
