Today's Verse: For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made… Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

One of my all time favorite verses.  I work with expecting and parenting teens as a part of my ministry, and I love this verse for the simplicity of the promise implied.

God has known us from the very beginning.  He "knit me together in my mother's womb".  It's such a specific image of careful crafting.

Have you ever knit a scarf or socks?  It takes time and intentional effort.  You have to count every stitch, every purl.  To make a complex design you literally have to keep counting every single time you knit one or purl one.  It's time consuming and takes focused effort.

That is how God created us.  He had the patience to create us little by little.  A little humor here.  A little intelligence here.  A nose just there.  An eyebrow that can lift independently from it's partner, ears that can wiggle, nostrils that can flair, each hair numbered, each day known.

I praise God because he made me from my basic cell structure all the way up to my unique personality, from my taste buds to my emotions.  God had a hand in every aspect of my being.  I am "fearfully and wonderfully made" that means that He took His time, and gave us respect as He created us.  He makes all things wonderful... so what does that make us?

WONDERFUL!

Praise God because you know that you are not an accident, a mistake, or something that is "junk".  God doesn't make "junk", He doesn't make mistakes.  He knit YOU together in your mother's womb.  He made you wonderful... as soon as you realize that, you will begin to stop yourself when you criticize the Creator's work...  You might even consider that taking care of His creation is more important, since you were so intentionally created.

When we begin to praise God because we are FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made... we are BEAUTIFUL!

  2. Aww....you had at the picture of the baby! And then it got even sweeter with your post. I love this portion of scripture. The way you described being knit together made me pause and realize the miracles we all are. Thank you my wonderful Father for creating all of us! ;-)

  3. Oh, I just love this!!!!!! We are not junk! The intricate, delicate, craftsmanship of God - that's how we came to be. About the eyebrow thing, I giggled cause I immediately thought of my husband raising each eye brow separately. I can't do that. I can do one up and one down, but not on the other side. Does that make sense? It's kinda funny. God made us all different. Great post dear!!

  5. Hi Aj,

    It struck me today that it takes time, and I love that our Artist God is not done with me yet.
