Today's Verse: And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

This one is tough.  I will admit that sometimes what I am doing in word or deed should not be in the name of the Lord Jesus... because it's not the best representative of Him that I can give.

More than 15 years ago I did a study called Experiencing God by Blackaby, Blackaby and King.  This book was so good, it still comes up in posts and conversations today (I should do it again).  One of the things I remember from it is the idea that we should look where God is already working and JOIN HIM in doing that work (rather than creating our own work and inviting Him to join us).

This verse is all about that.  Whatever we do, whether we are talking or serving or parenting or laughing, we should have Him be present in that moment.   We should do it in the name of Jesus.  Not in our name or our spouse's name or in the name of Girl Scouts.  We are doing it "as though working for the Lord" (Col 3:23).

We do this because we should be aware that as believers, we represent Him.  We do this because we are working out our faith every single day.  We do this as an act of worship.  Look at the last part there... "giving thanks to God the Father through Him."  It's a part of a thankful life.

When we live our lives as vessels for God we are Beautiful!
