Today's Verse:
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

If you have been paying attention I included both the beginning of this chapter, the middle and now the end of this chapter in these 31 days.

I love this passage!  I love that the idea of God searching us and knowing us is in both the first few and the last couple verses.  I love that the author says first that God knows everything about him, all of his thoughts and then he turns around and asks God for feedback.

Since God already knows all of our thoughts and our true motivations, it makes sense to ask Him to give us feedback about the areas of sin in our lives.

But I must warn you.  This particular verse, when prayed regularly, has a way of inviting God to hold a mirror up to our faces, and sometimes {ahem, all the time} it's painful.  You think you're fine, you feel confident in your choices and then you pray this verse and all of a sudden you become aware of some ugly stuff in your own life... and you can't ignore that stuff and hope God leaves you alone... once you hear from God about the "grievous ways" in you, you have to begin working on changing those things, little by little.

But there is a positive to that negative.  When we acknowledge that God knows us inside and out and invite him to give us constructive feedback, we are on our way to living in the Light... the way everlasting.  Living more in step with God gives us a sense of peace that running away from God never can {ever}.

I encourage you to pray this prayer and see what God has for you to look at... hopefully it's not too scary... :)  A life lead by the Spirit is a beautiful life.

  1. When I try and hide from God I am miserable. He always know my heart, whether I tell Him or not. When I ask Him to search me and grow me it stings, but the growth is always worth it. His loving balm always heals my self inflicted wounds.
Have a God filled day my sister in Christ. Xoxo
