Today's Verse: Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)

Ten years ago a John Mayer song came out called "Your body is a wonderland", which was about what you would imagine that song would be about.  My husband and I had fun making fun of it, by randomly saying "Your body is a wonderland" at completely inappropriate moments.

Now you understand the title of this post, so I can move on.  This passage was first introduced to me as a teenager, during one of my youth pastor's "Wait until marriage" talks.

One of his points was that because God lives IN US, when we are messing around with our boyfriend or girlfriend, God is right there too.  Creepy.

It's true, though.  It's a good argument for taking care of ourselves, because we are valuable.  The passage says that we "do not belong to [ourselves], for God bought [us] with a high price."  We are not our own.  God died for us, so we should live accordingly.  We should honor God with our lives.

How can you honor God?  For me it looks like being the very best representative that I can.  I am not perfect, and I screw up sometimes, as we all do, but God asks us to do our best for Him.  Honoring Him looks like admitting when we mess up and "failing forward", which means to not repeat the same mistakes over and over, but learn from our mistakes and move forward.

We are beautiful when we honor God with our lives.
