Five Minute FridaySo this is a fun one! It's like raw writing... no editing, no perfectionism, no worries.  Their most important requirement for participation: There’s really only one absolute, no ifs, ands or buts about it Five Minute Friday rule: you must visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community. (Sounds like a community I would like to be a part of).

Verse of the day: Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30 (NIV)

Welcome...
31 days of inner beauty, and 5 minute Friday falls on this scripture?

"Welcome to my home," I smile and straighten my shirt.  "Come right in." As I lead you into my living room, I swell in pride at my beautiful home.  I've spent hours cleaning, every book in it's place, every speck of dust removed, every rug vacuumed... candles burning, something yummy baking in the oven.

The truth?  My house is sometimes me.  I look fine on the outside.  My hair is flat-ironed, my clothes cute, I'm putting on my best to impress.  I smile too big, I am way too funny, I give the right answer, I hold my tongue.

I spent my teen years pretending to be something I wasn't.  I ignored my depression (until it nearly killed me), I was always the friend you could go to (even though I wasn't taking care of me.)

This verse is a warning, and an exhortation.  Welcome!  Be charming, be beautiful, but please... be real.  God calls us to transparent living.  He doesn't want us to have all the right answers all the time.  He doesn't want us to always be the therapist or the comforter, but never the comforted.  He wants us to first of all fear him (respect, honor, set-apart as one would a king or ruler), and second he doesn't want us to put on a mask for Him.

Welcome!  Come on in, let me move that pile of laundry.  Can I get you a drink of water in a spotted glass?  I am so glad you are here.  Sit, relax, you can be honest here.  Don't waste time trying to be something you are not.  Don't mince words or be careful to impress.  Don't hang onto those things that are temporary, just the eternal.

I'm the King's daughter... and I love my sisters, just the way they are... BEAUTIFUL!

  2. Oh, I love this! I STILL struggle with beauty. I want everything to look perfect, but how does my inside look? Thank you, thank you for the reminder that my King loves me regardless of what my outside looks like. :-) xoxo
