Today's Verse: For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)

Finally, scripture that gives us permission to not work out.  You are welcome.

All kidding aside, this scripture states that being physically in shape is valuable, but not as valuable as being spiritually in shape.

Why?  Because being physically in-shape is valuable for the present life, but being "Godly" is valuable for now and after death.

So, first let's look at what "Physical training" looks like... I am not currently working out regularly, but when I do, it takes some commitment.  I get up early 4-5 days a week and work out for 45 minutes to an hour.   I plan my workouts, 3 days of cardio, 2 days of weights.  I work in yoga once a week to keep me toned. (Maybe I should get back into shape...).  The benefits are endless... more energy, more confidence, I feel stronger, I have more endurance, I'm healthier too!

Now, what would it look like to strive for "Godliness"?   Spending time in the Word every single day, regular fellowship with other believers and making choices with my body and lifestyle that reflects an understanding of Scripture, and God's will.   I should be a student of Scripture, desiring to learn from others with more knowledge than I, and striving to put the Word IN ME, through memorization and reflection.  The benefits are endless, literally.

True BEAUTY comes from being Spiritually in-shape.
