Musing, Miscellany, Mingle and Food #1

Linking up with Menu Plan Monday and Miscellany Monday and Monday Mingle over at Tough Cookie Mommy and my new meme: Monday Musings

As this is my first Monday Musing, I have decided that I will have no linky... especially since like 10 people read my blog and it seems a little sad to have a linky at 10pm, when no one else will link up... but it will happen.  Oh yes. You just wait.  Monday Musings are simple things.  A little bit of everything... from things you saw that you like, to posting a week's menu... it's easy to link up because it can be anything (really).

I had a fabulous Thanksgiving.  My family spent the day with my husbands extended family, which included a 2 year old, twin 3 year olds and a 4 year old (along with my 7 and 9 year olds).  The day was beautiful, so there was a ton of time to play outside.  The food was delicious.  The atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable.  Altogether a wonderful day.  I am so blessed to have extended family that is nearly without drama!

Dear Fourth Grade,

I think I'm done.  It started with my son's mood swings... and now this, the going-on-15-hour Mission Project {that is never going to end}.  Seriously, it's almost as bad as potty training.

When I was in fourth grade you were pretty horrible, but I assumed it was because of the teacher.  She had a uni-brow {I'm fairly certain she was a werewolf} and she insisted on calling me A-lee-sa all year (rhymes with Lisa).  So I corrected her {every day}.  "My name is spelled with two S's... not one... it's like Melissa, but with an A in the beginning".  I am sure I was super respectful, and honored her... which is why I am confused that I spent so much time in the Principal's office.  Seriously.  Who mispronounces a kid's name ALL YEAR LONG?!

This is not one of those "It's not you, it's me" type letters.  It's you.  You took my sweet, funny, goofy, slightly distracted boy and turned him into a moody, emotional, over-dramatic drama llama.   What did you do?! Do you know that NOW he doesn't even believe in Santa and the Tooth Fairy?!  It just happened.  In the last month.

I blame you.

I can't blame the teacher, she is fabulous, my son likes her.  She is firm without being mean, and uses humor appropriately.  It's probably not the higher expectations of the GATE program.  There is just something about you, fourth grade.

It could be the increased demands that come with you in regards to Social Studies and Science.  It might be the increased social pressure that you trick weary parents into overlooking.  It might EVEN be the slight uptick in hormones, which make the boys grow like weeds and eat like locusts.  I am not sure what it is that makes you so unpleasant, but can you just stop?

I am going to have to give you one more chance.  Some day my little girl will meet you, and I demand that you treat her better than you treated me or my son.  I just want you to know that I am done with you, fourth grade.  You and your added academic pressure, hormones and social drama.  I never want to see you again!  (Well, until tomorrow when my son goes back to school)... (and in 2 years when my daughter is meeting you for the first time)... {I'm watching you}.

Sincerely, Alissa (like Melissa without the Me)
