And the Liebster Goes to...

Thank you to Beth from Structure in an Unstructured Life for bestowing upon me a very sweet award... The Liebster Award {Liebster in German means beloved, darling, sweet.... awwww}.  While this is no Oscar... it's a nice affirmation that I am not writing exclusively for friends and family {i.e. people who feel obligated to read my blog}.

Here’s how the award works: bloggers award other bloggers who they deem as “up and coming” and have less than 200 followers. It’s a nice way to help other bloggers increase their visibility. If you receive a Liebster, you must tell 11 things about yourself, answer 11 questions posed by the nominating blogger, and nominate 11 new bloggers. Then you ask those bloggers 11 questions that they will answer. {Don’t forget to tell the new bloggers you have nominated them!}

11 things about myself:

1. I once was offended when someone told me I would learn to drink red wine "as my palate matured"... and I have found that now I like red wine... as I've gotten older.  Go figure.

2. I am a recovering slob.  My house usually is pretty picked up and neat-ish, (I am also married to a neat-freak) but I feel guilty when people come over who are not as neat, because I am worried they will feel judged... so, sometimes I intentionally leaves piles of laundry out when a more "cluttered" friend comes over... and sometimes my hubby questions my sanity.

3.  Sometimes I hear circus music in my head.  Seriously.  I will find myself subconsciously humming along. {my kids cheerfully hum along too}

4. I have only had a cell phone for a year.  I went from no cell phone to a smart phone... a Crack... ahem, I mean Blackberry.  I feel like it is now an extension of my arm.

5. I have learned that being a hopeFUL romantic doesn't end when you get married, it just shifts to your friendships with women.  Suddenly I find myself creating dramatic story lines about my friendships.  So odd.

6.  I love animals... so much.  I rescue strays, learn the names of petting zoo animals and lurk around a feline fan page, just looking at animals up for adoption.  I am also extremely allergic to cats, dogs, birds and most rodents. I am willing to experience burning eyes to love on an animal.

7. I am a little obsessive about the title "friend".  I will not call someone a friend if they aren't one.  Otherwise I will call them "acquaintance" or someone I am getting to know.  I only call someone a friend if they are a friend.  I feel like calling every new acquaintance a friend cheapens the experience of friendship.

8.  I don't eat microwave popcorn.  I learned to make it on the stove and have never gone back.

9. I used to really dislike Disneyland.  It was too crowded and gave me a headache.  I married into a "Disney" family.  We go every other year.  NOW I love Disneyland!

10. The first letters of the first names of my immediate family are A, B, C, D. Yeah, we meant to do that.

11. I was raised by feminists, grew up hating pink and was always a bit of a tom-boy (played Water Polo on a boys team).  My little girl is emotional, and overwhelmingly girlie.  She coordinates all of her clothes with her accessories and shoes.  She has always naturally had the "hand-on-hip" model pose, and seems to thrive on being a "maiden in distress"... I just have to shake my head...

Beth's Questions for me:

1. What is the best book you have ever read?
I read more than 50 books a year.  You have no idea how hard this question is to answer.  My favorite all time book is Pride and Prejudice.  One book that I can't get out of my head is Night by Elie Wiesel. I only read it once. I read it in one sitting.  It changed my life.  Seriously.  Finished reading it and wept for 10 minutes.  It was that beautiful/heart wrenching.

2. What beauty product can you not live without?
Olay CC Cream – Total Effects Tone Correcting Moisturizer (with SPF) - Super helpful, though it doesn't correct my tone... but I love it for it's simplicity.

3. If you could travel to anywhere, with money not being an issue, where would you go?
Right now I am fascinated by the Mediterranean, I would love to do a 14 day cruise in that area.  See the beautiful coastal villages of Italy, maybe visit the Holy Land... sigh.

4. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher or a veterinarian.  I work in ministry with teenagers (pregnant and parenting teens), so one can say that I combined both and got my perfect job. ;)

5. What technology could you not live without?
The internet, specifically Google.

6. What food can you not resist?
Popcorn.  Strange, I know, but I just love it.  I can eat it every day. Sometimes I do. ;)

7. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
The words.  I love painting pictures with my words.  I love sharing my inner thoughts and knowing that someone else will read it, and understand me. I love being able to impact other people for the better.

8. What is your favorite time of the year?
Right about... NOW! Actually I love late winter/early spring.  It's not a busy time of the year, and the air seems fresh, the world seems shiny and full of potential...

9. What is at the top of your wish list?
Nikon 5100 SLR camera.  I want. :)

10. Are you a dog person, cat person, or neither?
Cat person, for sure.  I love dogs, but they are a little too obedient and demanding.  Cats are cool.  They do demand your attention, but they do it in a way that makes you think it was your idea.

11. Football, Basketball, or Baseball?
Hmmm, I don't really watch sports.  I really like college football and basketball.  Basketball is probably my favorite, I really like how fast the game is played... the ball is always moving.

And the 11 Nominees Are...
Karina from Mom in the USA
Lauren from The Crazy Life of LT
Hailey from Natural, Fit and Frugal

Heidi at Taking the Plunge (okay, she has more than 200 followers... I just like her.)
Jeanne from Blue Jeans and T-shirts
Unsearchable Riches (also known as Rooster Hill)

Dualing Moms
Lady in Read at My R and R Space
Mama Sonshine

Katie at Life in the Simple Lane
Lisa from That's what she said

I nominated the above bloggers because they are first of all great bloggers, plus they are commentators and followers... two things that make great bloggers...  :)

    Thanks again

  18. You are welcome, AJ! Sorry it took me so long to pop over and comment! Crazy Christmas season! :)
Loved reading your responses! I am also addicted to my cell phone and wanted to be a veterinarian when I was a kid! And I have been spoiled by my husband's popcorn making skills. No microwave stuff here either. When I'm craving some popcorn I just give him the puppy dog eyes and tell him no other popcorn is as good as his (which is the truth). Works every time! :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
As with most blogs, we appreciate most comments, but please don't post anything mean or insulting (to the author or anyone else), thank you!!
