It's the New Year... which means I need new pants

You want to know what kind of week (er 10 days) I've had?  Let me just say this... I am going on a plane in less than 24 hours and what I need to buy most are Tampons and Airborne... because of a period from hell and a cold that is camping in my sinuses ... and all these holiday cookies and candy sitting on my counter.  So, yes... new pants.  Or I need to {groan} lose weight.

I've written this post before.  It's true.  But even though I've written this post before, I also know that I have never written this post this year, with this new me that has been growing inside me for the last 2 years.  {Not the fat  fluffy me which has been growing outside me for the last 8 months 20 years}.

God has been busy working on me.  I can't claim to be the same person I was 24 months ago. I've changed in a 100 internal ways.  I'm stronger.  I'm "older and wiser".  I'm more aware of the conflicting voices inside of me.  I am less negatively impacted by the people around me.  I am able to do things I have never done before.

So I'm going for it! With my internal voices controlled {ish} and about 3 new-found external motivations {1. Exercise makes you smarter, scientists have found; 2. I have more reasons to be svelte and sexy; 3. I just read a book** that inspired me!} I am ready to rock and roll! ** I'm getting to this a little later.

I have a support system worked out.  I have a friend who is willing to exercise with me (and an arsenal of work out videos that are waiting in the wings).  I have the knowledge... I also have a whole Pinterest board all about "Becoming less of me" - which is a nice way to say "Lose the extra butt".

Now all I need is the action. Just before I go on a week-long conference where I will be sitting on said butt all day long.  Ye-es.

Now... about this book.  Blogger Jessica Heights {From Muthering Heights} has written a humorous, easy to read, inspiring book about how she lost 100 pounds, and kept it off.  It's called 100 Pound Loser: How I ate what I wanted, had four babies & finally took control of my weight.

I love books written by real people with real lives (not by celebrity people with personal chefs and personal trainers).  I love books that take into consideration that I am a soul that has a body I should be taking care of... rather than skipping the whole spirit-body connection.  I love books that don't demand that you work out 5 days a week and eat only 1500 calories.  I LOVE books that don't require a gym membership or becoming a vegan to lose weight.  All of these are good reasons to get this book and read it today!!

This is not a book from a "diet guru" who insists that you have to lose weight or you will die.  She actually says that she doesn't care how much you weigh or what you look like.  That said, she does encourage you to be aware of the calorie-in, calorie-out idea of weight loss.  It's a fabulous book!  You can get it for just $5!  (It doesn't come with a free scale, gym membership or weight bench though... just so you know}.  Just follow the link below and it will get you where you need to go!

Click here to visit Jessica Heights.

I didn't get paid to rave about this book, just a free copy of the book.
All opinions I shared are my own. I would buy this book (you should too)!!

What about you: What is your favorite inspiration to get you working out?

  1. I always love your posts. They make me laugh....and think!

This book looks really good. I am so intimidated by people, books, videos that are super freak exercisers and dieters. I love REAL people. I'm going to have to purchase this book....I need some inspiration!

  2. Sounds like a cool book. I agree with the whole books by celebrities thing. They can afford to have someone keeping them going. I have my husband sitting down with Reese's PB cups. That is not keeping me going.

  4. That sounds like a good book. I like when they make it something you can actually do without having tons of money or being a super human. As for me, after the extreme days of work I've actually lost some weight instead! So I suppose now I'll work for keeping my weight like that.
Thanks for your encouraging words today! :)

  5. Hi AJ,
When I set out to lose weight, I joined Weight Watchers. That weekly weigh-in made me accountable. I set small goals for myself. Every week, my goal was to lose 1-lb. That's it. Then, I decided to walk the dog myself. I did 30 min in the morning and 30 min in the evening. That's it. It worked. It was simple. The only thing that wasn't easy was having to buy new clothes because I went down several sizes.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I appreciate it.

  6. HA! Such a funny picture. I think everyone feels that way in January, though, don't worry. Also, all women can agree with the horrors of "periods from hell". I love how down to earth you are and I'm excited to get to know you better. Just found your blog and I hope you don't mind if I follow along!

  7. I am visiting from the hop on The Pink Momma! I just have to say I totally understand... it is hard to keep motivated to get in shape but it sounds like you are off to a great start! I have never been a big exercise fanatic but this year I will be turning 30 so I have resolved to get in better shape...not for the number on the scale but just because I want to feel good... and still eat all the yummies I want! lol ;) I have found that working out HAS to be FUN! Santa brought our kiddos an Xbox Kinect and he put in my stocking The Biggest Loser game! Ha ha! And it is SO much fun! I don't have time to spend in a gym nor do I really want to so this was the perfect gift Santa could have delivered to our house!! ;) My daughter got Disney's Dance Party game and it is so much fun to get goofy and dance with her. Don't let the name of the game fool you though... the dances are pretty tough and a great work out!

    Hugs!
