And the LIEBSTER goes to...

Thank you to Heidi from Typative Mama Cat for bestowing upon me a very sweet award... The Liebster Award {Liebster in German means beloved, darling, sweet.... awwww}.  While this is no Oscar... it's a nice affirmation that I am not writing exclusively for friends and family {i.e. people who feel obligated to read my blog}.

Here’s how the award works: bloggers award other bloggers who they deem as “up and coming” and have less than 200 followers. It’s a nice way to help other bloggers increase their visibility.
Because I am ornery I am actually changing the rules. Here are the new rules (according to me):
1. Answer 11 questions from the nominating blog.
2. Tell 9 things about you.
3. Nominate 7 bloggers who have less than 200 followers and ask those bloggers 11 questions  {Don’t forget to tell the new bloggers you have nominated them!}
4. You must follow those 7 bloggers you nominate... just to share the bloggy love.
5. If you are nominated... and are so inclined to accept the award... go and visit your co- nominees... follow some new blogs, and I wouldn't mind if you follow me!  It's not marriage... it's a community. :)  Oh, and please let me know that you posted in response here in the comments.  I would love to read your answers.

If you are nominated and you never get around to following my blog or the other nominees or posting about the award... nothing will happen to you.  You will not get seven years bad luck, you will not have the fleas from a thousand camels infest your armpits... you will just not get the fun of hunting for 7 blogs who have less than 200 followers.  :)

AND here I go.

11 Questions from Heidi:
1. Girls go for guys with skills be it hacking skills or Nunchuck skills but girls have skills too! What skills do you have? Do any involve baking? Will you bring me some cookies?
I have MAD skills.  I can design an invitation like nobody's business.  I can also grill like a fool.  I can bake, but I cannot bring you cookies.  My daughter is selling girl scout cookies... do you want to buy some? :)

2. What skill have you never mastered that you would love to try?
I try new things constantly.  I have tried, but haven't mastered, making pottery.  I would love to do that more!!

3. Favorite book?
Pride and Prejudice.  Hands down.

4. Favorite historical figure (yeah, I'm making these pretty simple but I'm tired . . . all the time).
I love the California Gold rush.  That is one of my favorite times in history.   Luzena Wilson is a little known woman from the Gold Rush who made a fortune baking for hungry miners.  It's a good story.

5. When was the last time you felt well rested?
This question makes me chuckle.  Clearly you are exhausted.  I feel well rested right now.  Even if I am a little tired... my kids are 9 and 7... they get up really early, but I don't have to anymore. :)

6. What is one thing you have built or made that you are really proud of (for this discussion, kids don't count)?
I made 4 Wizard of Oz themed costumes last Halloween... and they turned out really cute.

7. What modern fads/habits do you not understand? Or are intentionally avoiding?
Tattoos.  I get it.  You like to color on yourself.  I just have no interest in having a burning hot needle with ink on/in it stabbed into my skin hundreds of times.  I'm good.

8. What fictional character do you most identify with?
These are not easy questions.  There is a book by Angela Hunt called Magdelene.  It is about Mary Magdelene.  She is not really a fictional character, but the way she was portrayed in that book really resonated with me.  A LOT.

9. What fictional character do you aspire to be more like?
I think Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice is a sweet, gentle, good-natured girl.  I often wish I was more like that.

10. Take a mental vacation. Where do you go? What's for dinner? Is there chocolate? Coffee?
Anywhere near the ocean.  Maybe somewhere warm near the ocean.  Dinner is anything I don't have to make.  There is ALWAYS coffee and chocolate.  And wine. And tortilla chips with salsa.

11. What super power do you want? What super power do you have? (two in one)
I would like the super power of clean.  I wish I could just imagine a clean home and have it be clean without having to actually do anything. Seriously.  My house would be clean ALL. THE. TIME.  I already have the super power of being able to make anything I put my mind to! I heart Google.

9 Little Known Facts about ME.
1. I have a few idiosyncrasies... like I need windows and open doors...  because I am a little claustrophobic.   I am also a little bit afraid of the dark... I make myself walk through a dark house at night just to help me get over it.

2.  I learned to make salsa this year and it's now my second favorite salsa!  I never buy salsa from the store anymore, just the ingredients to make salsa.

3.  I am constantly losing things.  Earlier this week I lost both my car keys and my cell phone for 15 minutes one morning.  (SMH).  The keys were in my purse.  The phone in my car.   My kids found them.

4.  I volunteer to teach both of my kids' classes music each week for 30 minutes.  This is interesting because I am REALLY not a kid person.  I like kids, but in small doses. I love my kids though.

5. I love my job.  I regularly feel slightly guilty because I love my job so much.  It almost doesn't feel like a job. (Because it's a ministry, working with Pregnant and Parenting teens).

6. I recently discovered a new pet peeve: lying.  It makes me lose my cool when my kids lie to me.

7. I have a 16 year old, almost 17 year old cat.  He has been with me since he was 4 weeks old (and I was 19).  Sometimes I look at him and want to squish his little kitty cheeks because I love him so much.  I know he won't live forever... but it's hard to imagine the world without him.

8.  I like to play games on my computer.  Many women don't... but I love The Sims and other games like that.  When I have time (which I rarely do.)

9. I take pictures of everything.  My kids are so well trained that the second my camera comes out, they stop and smile until I am done.  They are so comfortable with the camera, it never phases them.
