The Joy of His Presence {Acts 2:28}

Verse: You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence. Acts 2:28

Suggested reading: Luke 1:26-38

Main Idea: The third week in Advent focuses on Joy! Joy has been defined as an internal sense of contentment and happiness that comes from a faith in God.

In the story of Jesus' birth, his mother Mary was told by an angel that she would give birth to a baby.  She was confused, it was impossible for her to be pregnant, because she wasn't married and was still a virgin.  Yet she accepted what the angel told her because she had faith.

Even though Mary must have been really scared and unsure, she was obedient to God and found herself anticipating the birth of a son. God was with her every step of the way, and her joy was made complete in the birth of her son, Jesus, the Savior of the world.

2} What do you think is "the way of life" the writer of Acts was talking about?
3} What do you think the difference between joy and happiness is?
4} When are you in the presence of God?  Why should that fill you with joy?
5} Thinking about Mary and the surprise visit from the angel, how would you feel if you woke up in the middle of the night and an angel was talking to you?  Have you ever had to obey a parent or teacher when you really didn't feel like it?  Do you  think Mary felt that way too?
6} How can having a strong belief in God help you feel joyful?  Do you enjoy spending "time with God" at church and during prayer time at home?

This is the third week in this theme!
Here is the whole month-long theme and memory verses that go with it!
