There is no fear in Love {1 John 4:18}

Verse: There is no fear in love.  But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

Main Idea: Have you ever read in the Bible that we are to "fear" God (Matthew 10:28)?  Often we misunderstand and think that it means that God is waiting to punish us when we make mistakes.  Sometimes we think it means that God might take His love away from us.  To fear God means to respect Him,  to understand that because we sin, we deserve a punishment, that He can give us.

But, God sent Jesus to receive the punishment FOR us, because He loves us.  That Love is God's gift to us.

If we accept Jesus and that gift, we don't need to be afraid.  God Loves Us.  There is nothing we can do to make him love us less, and there is nothing we can do that will make Him love us more

2} The verse this week is about God's love.   Why does God's "perfect love" drive out our fear of him?   What do you think it means to be "made perfect in love?"  {This means to be able to love without fear}.
3} The Bible tells us that God is Love.  Have you ever felt God's love?  When?
4}  The verse right after our memory verse says "We love because He first loved us", which means we can learn how to love by watching God.  What are some ways that you feel or see God's love? {Think about the beauty of Creation, the sacrificial love of Christ, the peace and hope He gives us}.
5} Do you think that God is scary?  Why or why not?
6} How can you show the love of God to your friends and family?
